With a packed schedule of events over the next four months, the Overstrand is set for a bustling summer season. September and October alone will feature over nine municipal approved events, offering something for everyone. Furthermore, the municipality is in the process of finalising more event applications for the same period.
Here’s taking a look at a bumper long-week ahead…
The highly anticipated Chelsea Flowers event in Stanford will open to the public on 21 September and the Celebration of Fynbos Festival at the Fernkloof Nature Reserve Gardens promises to be a delightful event. Other highlights of the long weekend include the Ceramics Festival in Kleinmond and the Wine & Cheese Tasting and Art Exhibition at the Harold Porter National Botanical Garden.
Following these events, the Stanford Sunset Market on the Village Green will be returning after its winter break on 27 September, the Whale Festival in Hermanus between 27 to 29 September, and the Vissermans Fees is scheduled for 28 September at the Gansbaai Harbour.
Residents should prepare for busy roads and potential parking difficulties. Plan to leave earlier than normal and consider using ride-sharing when possible. A reminder that some routes into the area may be impacted by construction, such as the R43 between Gansbaai and Stanford.
In the event of major road closures, the Municipality will provide updates on Facebook and through the ward councillors’ WhatsApp groups.
Please be patient and follow the directions of officials – they will be working hard to manage the increased traffic and maintain safety.
Remember to take your rubbish with you and leave the public bathrooms in a clean condition. Lastly, avoid leaving valuables like cell phones and wallets in plain sight or on your car’s seat; secure them in the boot instead.
